New Years In Aalborg Denmark

Happy new year everyone! This (last) year we decided we wanted to see the new year in a different place.  About a month ago we went on a low budget airline website and chose the cheapest flights going, which happened to be Aalborg. This meant we had a tortuous 6am flight going out, which pretty much means you don’t sleep for the night. By the time we got to Aalborg we felt like zombies, so the argument that you gain an extra day by going early also means that all you want to do is go to bed. We had to wait a few hours until we were allowed in our AirBnB, and we also had to get a bus to it. By the time we got there it was time to eat and go to bed.

Unfortunately, new years is not the greatest time to go to Aalborg, as almost all of their interesting galleries and museums are closed over new years. It was also extremely wet, so to discover that a hole decided to appear in my boots the day we got there meant my feet looked like prunes at the end of each day. Despite this, we pottered around the streets and found a very nice Indian restaurant before managing to get back to our house before midnight to watch the incredible fireworks display. In Denmark, everyone has their own fireworks, and fires them off for about 2 hours after midnight. Best not to think of all of the potential A&E visits that are a result of this.

Despite all of the rain and closures we still had a good time, and even managed to take a few photos between downpours. In fact the reflections in all the puddles made for great night time photos.

Here’s to a warm and dry 2018!
